Christian’s dream is to create a deeply immersive audiovisual experience about the biology behind our technology, so the Humanification concept will be more accessible to a global audience. The journey will follow the seven-wave pattern from the first sub-atomic particle to molecules to living cells, to humans and eventually to a multi-planetary society. The movie will explain the impact of exponential technology on the society we live in today and will give us a glimpse into a beautiful future.
Just like the first living cells, humans started in small communities.Â
Wave 1 Technology
Technological Wave 1.0 delivered technology that met our basic physiological and biological human needs. Technology like agriculture (food), buildings and towns (shelter/sleep), irrigation (water), fire (warmth), laws and government (homeostasis), and many more.
Wave 1 Biology
The first biological wave helped single-cell organisms to meet their basic needs. Cells started to develop some kind of communication and started to work together and formed multicellular culture and communities. These became organisms that were, in effect, using biotechnology to increase their survival rate. These single cells started to work together and form bigger structured communities, like coral reefs (shelter) to gather and filter food more efficiently (agriculture) from the ocean tides.
Â
In the industrial revolution, humans developed a global industrial and global logistics and energy infrastructure. The development of our global digestive and vascular system.
Wave 2 Technology
Technological Wave 2.0 delivered technology that met our needs for safety and comfort. Infrastructure technologies provided us with a stable environment to build nations: we were able to have employment (industrial infrastructure), reliable transportation systems (transport infrastructure), constant energy flow (pipeline and cable infrastructure for oil and electricity), pharmaceuticals (healthcare infrastructure).
Wave 2 Biology
The second biological wave helped the cell communities (organisms) to meet their needs of safety and comfort. It helped the organisms to form a digestive system (industry) that processed food more efficiently and distributed nutrition (energy) through a vascular system (infrastructure). In this way, an organism could distribute the energy more efficiently throughout the organism, which enabled it to thrive and grow even faster (health).
Â
Humans developed an advanced and global telecom infrastructure. The development of our global nervous system.
Wave 3 Technology
Â
Technological Wave 3.0 delivered us technology that met our needs to connect with each other. Telecommunication technology enabled real-time communication between family, our loved ones (meeting our love needs), and let us build and maintain relations over long distances (meeting our connection needs).
Wave 3 Biology
Â
The third biological wave helped the fast-growing cell communities (organisms) to meet their love and connection needs. The cell communities had grown rapidly and distances became bigger between separate parts of the cell community (organism). Cell communities started to form nerve networks that re-connect the outer parts of the community in real time so that they could work together even more efficiently (connection). Cell communities also started to develop senses that helped the community to create a better awareness of their surroundings.
In the automation revolution, humans started to connect and automate many ICT processes. The development of our global reptilian brain.
Wave 4 Technology
Â
Technological Wave 4.0 delivered new technology that meets our need for autonomy. Software technology such as operating systems and applications automated all kind of processes and routines for us. Software gave our technology almost instinctive behaviour that was ‘programmed in’ and made our technology much easier to manage.
Wave 4 Biology
Â
The fourth biological wave helped the cell communities (organism) to meet the needs of self-esteem and autonomy. Cell communities (organisms) started to develop automated routines that helped them to automate internal processes and also helped them to hunt more efficiently. Cell communities developed an operating system (reptile brain) that was like a software layer upon all the biological hardware.
In the social media revolution, humans started to connect on a global scale via social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Youtube. The development of our global emotional brain.
Wave 5 Technology
Â
Technological Wave 5.0 delivered new technology that met our cognitive needs: technology such as search engines (our need for knowledge), social networks (our need for self-awareness and self-expression), and task-specific communities (our need for meaning).
Wave 5 Technology
Â
The fifth biological wave helped the cell communities (organisms) to meet their cognitive needs. Cell communities developed a mammal brain technology that provided memory (knowledge), which helped organisms to remember specific environments, situations, and behaviours; it also gave the organism social skills (self-awareness and expression) that enabled them to share and copy successful behaviours from other mammals.
Humans are developing deep neural networks and artificial intelligence in the cloud. The development of our global neo-cortex brain.
Wave 6 Technology
Â
Technological Wave 6.0 holds the promise to deliver new technology that will help us to meet our aesthetic needs: technology like cloud-based neural networks that are able to learn and create almost perfect algorithms (to enhance beauty and form), robots that learn to walk and move like people (balance), and even the creation of advanced virtual agents who can help us with all kinds of processes (self-reflection).
Wave 6 Biology
Â
The sixth biological wave helped cell communities to meet their aesthetic needs. Technology like the neocortex brain helped them to learn faster and solve more complex problems; it also gave rise to the first tools and drawings (beauty and form), it helped us to walk upright (balance), and it enabled the development of basic communication (self-reflection).
Humans start to develop a collective imagination and collective execution ability. The development of our global pre-frontal cortex brain.
Wave 7 Technology
Â
Technological Wave 7.0 holds the promise to deliver us new technology that will meet our need for self-actualisation and transcendence. I think it’s likely that we will see the advent of Digital Doubles (who will help us achieve faster personal growth, self-knowledge, and transcendence), hive minds, and decision-making platforms (that will help us with tough morality questions and give us a mechanism to place the needs of the many above the needs of self), and we will see more co-creation platforms (to help us reach fulfilment and help us serve our purpose).
Wave 7 Biology
Â
The seventh biological wave helped cell communities to meet their needs of self-actualisation and transcendence. Technology like the prefrontal cortex enabled cell communities (organisms, including we humans) to improve themselves and develop advanced language and share concepts and ideas (personal growth and self-knowledge); it helped them to develop agriculture and civilisation (morality and place others’ need above self), and it helped them to do things that gave them satisfaction (fulfilment and purpose).
We’re looking for You!
The dream is to impact as many people as possible and therefore we want to create a full feature movie/documentary about Humanification, so that the concept becomes even more accessible and engaging for a global audience. The movie is currently in the concept phase and we are looking for partners with an interest in co-funding and turning the movie dream into a reality.
