MIT Researchers Develop Ultrasound Stickers That Can See Inside the Body

MIT Researchers Develop Ultrasound Stickers That Can See Inside the Body

Go Digital

What Happened? A team of researchers from MIT has developed ultrasound stickers that can see inside the body. The ultrasound stickers are small and discreet and can be worn for up to 48 hours at a time. This could revolutionize the way ultrasounds are used, as currently, they require bulky and specialized equipment that is only available in hospitals or doctors' offices. The ultrasound stickers were tested on people doing everyday activities such as jogging and drinking fluids and produced high-resolution images of their internal organs.

Stay Human

Why is this important, and how will this impact people's lives? This is a huge breakthrough for ultrasound technology. The ultrasound stickers are small, portable, and easy to use, so ultrasounds could eventually be done in any setting and by anyone. This would make ultrasound technology much more accessible and could potentially save lives. By adopting this new technology, medical imaging will be more pleasant and humane; you may perform a scan in a safe place, such as at home.

The stickers were applied to test subjects in the research. The devices generated live, high-resolution images of key blood vessels and deeper organs such as the heart, lungs, and stomach when displayed on a smartphone. The stickers adhered firmly and recorded changes in organs during activities including sitting, standing, jogging, and cycling. To create the current design, sound waves must be converted into pictures using instruments connected to the stickers.

What's next? The researchers are now working on commercializing the ultrasound stickers and hope to make them available to the public soon. They are also working on making the ultrasound stickers wireless for even more settings. This is a huge breakthrough for ultrasound technology and has the potential to change the way we use ultrasounds forever.
